Growing up in the Flint, Michigan foster care system McKayla survived a rare form of cancer and lost one of her legs. Doctor’s told her not to expect to be able to run, or ride a bike again. Now at the age of 27 McKayla has come a long way, competing nationally in triathlons and seeking out adventure.

Madeleine Ehrlich

DIRECTOR

Madeleine Hunt Ehrlich is a filmmaker and artist. Her work has screened all over the world, including at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and in film festivals such as the New Orleans Film Festival, Doclisboa, and Blackstar Film Festival. She is the recipient of a 2019 Rema Hort Mann Award, a 2019 UNDO fellowship and grant, a 2015 TFI ESPN Future Filmmaker Award, and a 2014 Princess Grace Award in film. Madeleine has an M.F.A. from Temple University. She is currently an assistant professor in film and television production at CUNY - Queens College in New York City.

Jaime Sweet

PRODUCER

Jaime Sweet is an emerging producer of independent film and new media, based in the tri-state area. Most notably, she produced the College Emmy® Award- winning TV series One of The Guys. Jaime has produced both fiction and non-fiction projects; assisting on set, strategizing social media marketing, and managing fundraising campaigns. She is currently the social media coordinator for The Computer Wore Heels book app, by author and filmmaker LeAnn Erickson.

Iva Radivojevic

Iva Radivojevic is the recipient of a 2015 Guggenheim Fellowship. Iva’s films have screened at numerous film festivals including SXSW Film Festival, Rotterdam IFF, Human Rights Watch, HotDocs Film Festival, were shown at The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), and were broadcast PBS, The Documentary Channel as well as the New York Times Op-Docs.

Gabriela Watson Aurazo

Gabriela Watson Aurazo is Brazilian of Afro-Peruvian descent; she is a filmmaker and activist. She directed the documentary We, Afro-Peruvians (Brazil, Peru, 2012, 45min) screened in USA, Latin American and Africa. Her research and productions are related to Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Peruvian identity, African Diaspora, black women, media and education. She is recipient of the 2014 Scholarship from the Black Women Film Network - BWFN, Atlanta, GA. Gabriela was awarded the Dean’s Grant from Temple University and she is a 2015 Flaherty Seminar Fellow and a 2014 Fellow recipient of The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival. Currently, Gabriela is a MFA candidate in Film and Media Arts at Temple University, Philadelphia, she is working on her new feature documentary Baobab Flowers, about the connections of black women of the African Diaspora and education and in the AFROtrip project: a web series featuring upcoming artists and activists from Brazil.

Jaad Asante

Jaad Asante is a documentarian with a passion for people and their passions; her work often focuses on dancers and other athletes and the rigors of their craft. She is currently an MFA candidate studying at Temple University's Film and Media Arts program. When she isn't making documentaries or dance films, she enjoys working on productions alongside exceptional storytellers. She is currently in production on her thesis film, an observational exploration of a primarily African-American ballet company.
