If you follow our blog you know that we began the initiate The Power of Words last year through the support of Montblanc by combining renowned filmmakers and young storytellers to create works around the words of a visionary leader. The first voice we're spotlighting is one of the most powerful: Nelson Mandela.
Today in Cape Town, South Africa the films crated will premiere for Mandela's family, public dignitaries, filmmakers and youth leaders. To celebrate the work we will post videos of the Tribeca Film Fellows® who took part in it. We will post all the films next month.
First up is Frisly Soberanis. Along with filmmaker Ramin Bahrani (Man Push Cart, Goodbye Solo), the two created the film Lift You Up through the Mandela quote: "The habit of attending to small things and of appreciating small courtesies is one of the important marks of a good person."
Here Soberanis talks about working with Bahrani and what Mandela's words mean to him.
