TFI Shorts: Puppy Love

Tribeca Teaches brings the art of filmmaking into New York City classrooms. This year's program theme is "Change." Over the next few weeks, we'll be highlighting the ten short films produced by this year's students, including classes from our newest partner school, MS 131 in Manhattan's Chinatown.

Puppy Love Class: MS 131 7th Grade Teaching Artist: Sen-I Yu Classroom Instructors: Roza Ng and Lidan Zhou

To the newly immigrated students at MS 131 in Chinatown, American displays of public affection are strange and disturbing. The students at Pace High School in the same building see those displays as perfectly natural. Fascinated by the cultural differences between American and Chinese expressions of love, the MS 131 7th graders created Puppy Love, a documentary short that compares their attitudes about love to those displayed by their counterparts at Pace.
