Reframe Spotlight: 'Doubletime'

With the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival kicking off its 12th edition this Wednesday, we thought we'd highlight one of the TFF alumni we have on Reframe.

Selected to the 2007 fest, Stephanie Johnes' Doubletime looks at the unique jump roping competition. We follow two of the best teams in America—the Bouncing Bulldogs of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and The Double Dutch Forces of Columbia, South Carolina—as they train to compete against each other for the very first time.

The Bulldogs represent the best of gymnastic freestyle jumping found mostly in white suburbia while the Forces belong to the inner- city African American tradition of Double Dutch.

Though based in neighboring states, the two teams have rarely crossed paths as they belong to separate teams, however, both the Bulldogs and the Forces decide to enter into the competition at the world famous Apollo Theater called the Holiday Classic. The film features four young athletes (age 11 to 18) who display courage, skills and charisma as they passionately prepare for the event.
