Logline

A high-profile police shooting rocks the Minneapolis Police Department, and its reform-minded first female chief is forced to resign. Following three women officers who carry on the fight to transform the MPD and restore community trust — WOMEN IN BLUE explores gender, violence and policing in America.

Deirdre Fishel

Director, Producer

Fishel is a producer/director of documentaries and dramas that have premiered in competition at Sundance, SXSW, AFI and Full Frame and been broadcast in 35 countries worldwide.  Her most recent documentary CARE, which looks at the poignant but hidden world of home elder care, was funded by ITVS and the Ford and MacArthur Foundations. It was broadcast on AMERICA REFRAMED and had an extensive impact campaign with support from Bertha BritDocs, AFI DOCS, and the Fledgling Fund. Fishel has devoted the majority of her career to stories about women and is Director of the BFA program in Film/Video at City College.

Beth Levison

Producer

Levison is an Emmy and Peabody-winning producer/director based in NYC with a track record of bringing films that are steeped in real and emotional conflict to the screen. Her most recent film PERSONAL STATEMENT, about three high school seniors who refuse to defer their college dreams – or those of their peers –premiered at AFI Docs 2018 and will broadcast on PBS later this fall.  Previous producing credits include 32 PILLS: MY SISTER’S SUICIDE (HBO, 2017), THE TRIALS OF SPRING (PBS 2019), and her independent directorial/producing debut LEMON (PBS 2011).  Levison is also a co-founder of the Doc Producers Alliance (DPA).

Tom Bergmann

Director of Photography

Bergmann is a Director of Photography for documentaries, narrative and experimental films. His recent works include the Academy Award-nominated documentaries ABACUS, directed by Steve James, LIFE, ANIMATED directed by Roger Ross Williams, and the feature-length documentary PROMISED LAND directed by Eugene Jarecki (2017 Cannes Film Festival premiere). Bergmann has been a freelance Director of Photography for 15 years.

Sunita Prasad

Editor

Sunita Prasad’s editing work has screened theatrically and in major festivals internationally including LA Film Fest, DOC NYC, Hot Docs, and Human Rights Watch Film Festival, in addition to being showcased on PBS, Vice, and Logo. Sunita’s past editing credits include critically acclaimed feature documentaries 93QUEEN, OUT IN THE NIGHT, and MAKERS: ONCE AND FOR ALL, as well as TV documentaries such as the Emmy-nominated AND STILL I RISE: BLACK AMERICA SINCE MLK and the forthcoming KOREA: THE NEVERENDING WAR.
