As a young aspiring chef in Mexico, Iván works at a restaurant, hoping to land a spot in the kitchen while supporting the mother of his child. One night he meets Gerardo, a handsome teacher who, unlike Iván, is out as a gay man. Their chemistry is instant. The discovery of their romance, however, causes conflict, and he is told he can no longer see his son. In despair, Iván makes the arduous decision to cross the border to advance his culinary career, promising his son and newfound love he will return.
DIRECTOR
Heidi Ewing is a seasoned documentary director and the co-director of the Academy award nominated Jesus Camp. Other recent works include DETROPIA, 12th & Delaware, and Freakonomics. She is the co-owner of Loki Films.
EDITOR
Born and raised in Tel Aviv, Enat Sidi is very active as an editor in the American documentary film world. She is a frequent collaborator with directors Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, having edited most of their nonfiction feature films including “The Boys of Baraka” (2005 Emmy nominee), “Jesus Camp: (2006 Academy Award nominee), HBO’s 12th & Delaware (Peabody winner) and most recently DETROPIA for which Enat won the editing award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. In addition, Enat has worked on many prestigious films for a myriad of diverse filmmakers including Ellen Kuras (“The Betrayal”) and Jennifer Vendiiti (“Billy the Kid”). She acted as the consulting editor on “Bully,” the high profile doc released in 2012 by the Weinstein Company and edited the 2015 Grand Jury Winner at Sundance: "The Wolfpack". She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.

A private investigator turned filmmaker, Rachel Grady has
produced and directed a wide variety of documentaries for HBO, PBS, The Discovery Channel,
MTV and A&E. She and her creative partner Heidi Ewing co-directed The Boys of Baraka, the
critically acclaimed documentary feature won a 2006 NAACP Image Award and was nominated
for an Emmy. Her feature documentary, Jesus Camp, also co-directed with Ewing, chronicles the
Evangelical movement through the eyes of children. The film was nominated for an Academy
Award. In 2007 Grady and Ewing also collaborated with several high profile nonfiction
filmmakers for the omnibus documentary film Freakonomics: The Movie, based on the best-selling
book. Grady’s last documentary, 12th & Delaware, co-directed with Ewing and winner of a
Peabody Award, is a searing portrait of a street corner in Fort Pierce, Florida, where a pro-life
crisis pregnancy center and an abortion clinic are locked in battle. She is the co-director of the recent "DETROPIA."
