A band of Latin American activist economists sets out to change their continent, teaming up with impoverished women to challenge accepted notions on how to eradicate poverty. The women become empowered economic and political engines of their communities. If taken to scale, could 20 million women upend a continent?

Producer
Paco de Onís (Producer) grew up in Latin America during a time when military dictatorships ruled. His most recent production is “Granito: How to Nail a Dictator” (world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and national U.S. broadcast in 2012 on PBS P.O.V. series 25th Anniversary Season). Paco also produced and launched Granito: Every Memory Matters, a companion mixed media outreach project designed to recover the collective memory of the Guatemalan genocide. Previously he produced the film and educational media project “The Reckoning: The Battle for the International Court,” which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2009 U.S. Documentary Competition. “The Reckoning” has been nominated for 2 National News and Documentary Emmy Awards: Best Documentary and Outstanding Investigative Journalism. Prior to “The Reckoning,” he produced “State of Fear”, about Peru’s 20-year war on terror with Shining Path, based on the findings of the Peruvian Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Pamela Yates
Director
Pamela Yates (Director) is an American documentary filmmaker. She was born and raised in the Appalachian coal-mining region of Pennsylvania but ran away at the age of 16 to live New York City. She is a Guggenheim Fellow, the Director of the Sundance Award winning “When the Mountains Tremble”, the Producer of the Emmy Award winning “Loss of Innocence,” and the Executive Producer of the Academy Award winning “Witness to War.” She most recently directed the film “Granito,” (world premiere and official selection at the Sundance Film Festival, 2011). Previously Yates directed, “The Reckoning: The Battle for the International Criminal Court,” a feature-length film and educational initiative and “State of Fear” (2005), a feature-length documentary that tells the epic story of Peru’s 20-year war on terror based on the findings of the Peruvian Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Pamela is a co-founder and President of Skylight Pictures.
