Stanley Nelson

Stanley Nelson is a 2002 MacArthur Fellow. His most production, A Place of Our Own for the PBS series Independent Lens, premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. His film The Murder of Emmett Till for PBS's American Experience won and Emmy and captured the Special Jury Prize at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. The Black FIlmmakers' Hall of Fame and the Black International Cinema Festival in Berlin named his documentary, Marcus Garvey: Look for Me in the Whirlwind, Best Production of the Year. In 1999, his film The Black Press: Soldiers without Swords won a DuPont-Columbia Silver Baton, the Sundance Film Festival's Freedom of Expression award, was named Best Documentary at the San Francisco Film Festival, and won an Emmy nomination.
