About

Pilar is a filmmaker based in Durham, NC. She was associate producer and editor of the award-winning oceanography documentary ATLANTIC CROSSING: A ROBOT'S DARING MISSION, which premiered at the Smithsonian’s Baird Auditorium in 2010 and was featured in a two-year exhibit in Sant Ocean Hall. ATLANTIC CROSSING also screened at festivals and aired on PBS stations around the country. Her work has appeared in The Atlantic, Scientific American, The Economist, MSNBC.com, The Financial Times, and elsewhere. Pilar holds a B.A. from Rutgers University and a master’s degree from Duke Divinity School. In her master’s work, she focused on image studies and ethics through an interdisciplinary theology and arts approach. Her work has focused on Latin America, immigration, religion, and women’s stories. She is currently producing the documentary feature THE LAST PARTERA, which has been supported by Big Sky Pitch and the Southern Documentary Fund.
