The Mexico-Dominican duo of Laura Amelia Guzmán (Dominican Republic, 1980) and Israel Cárdenas (Mexico, 1980) has directed, written, produced, and photographed several feature films to date. Among them figure Cochochi (2007) and Jean Gentil (2010), both celebrating their world premieres in the Exhibition of Cinematographic Art of the Venice Biennale; the documentary Carmita (2013); Sand Dollars (2014), starring Geraldine Chaplin, has been internationally renowned. Presently, they are premiering Sambá at Tribeca Film festival and the documentary Noeli Overseas at Visions du Réel. Their next feature Beauty Kingdom will be produced in the Dominican Republic in Summer 2017.
